The 14th Annual Project ACES Day will occur across the United States and around the world at 10 a.m. local time on May 1, 2002. Since 1989, millions of children, parents and teachers have participated in Project ACES (All Children Exercise Simultaneously) in an effort to promote physical activity as a means of unity and health. Managed by the Youth Fitness Coalition Inc., it is a non-competitive program that is designed to be educational, motivational and fun. It is celebrated in May, which is also National Physical Fitness and Sports Month.

Participants in the program will walk, jog, dance, take a group exercise class or participate in any type of group physical activity. Each site organizes its own participation assembly for the 15 to 45 minutes that the program takes place. Many sites invite local politicians, celebrities and athletes to their events. Says H.J. Saunders, founder and president of the Youth Fitness Coalition, “The majority of schools will get their entire population outside on to a field, play music, and let everyone have some fun by moving and exercising together.”

In some places, Project ACES is no longer just an annual event. There are now year-long Project ACES Clubs that are filling the physical education gap in schools in support of the PEP Act (Physical Education for Progress). Several states also have daily, weekly and/or monthly Project ACES Participation Assemblies with different health, fitness, nutrition and lifestyle themes.
